Overview

ABAR’s Assessment & Recovery service provides structured evaluation and stabilization support for wastewater facilities seeking stronger process control and reduced compliance risk. We identify root causes, define measurable targets, and guide practical implementation built for real-world operations.

Who This Service Is For

Ideal for facilities looking to:

  • Strengthen process stability and reduce variability

  • Improve clarifier and biological system control

  • Optimize solids handling and dewatering performance

  • Reinforce operational structure and accountability

  • Prepare proactively for regulatory oversight

  • Optimize process efficiency and reduce operating costs at a well-run facility

  • Get an independent outside perspective before issues develop

Phase 1 - Plant Recovery Assessment

The Plant Recovery Assessment is ABAR’s structured evaluation of operational performance, compliance exposure, and the factors influencing plant stability. We focus on the core drivers of treatment performance — solids inventory and SRT control, aeration strategy, clarifier behavior, solids processing capacity, and documentation readiness.

Optional Phase 0 - Desktop Review

Phase 0 is a remote analysis of 6–12 months of Client-supplied operational data — DMRs, lab reports, process logs, and permit records in whatever format you have them. No site visit required. ABAR delivers a detailed written report identifying compliance risk factors, performance trends, and priority focus areas. Phase 0 is the foundation for everything that follows.

What We Evaluate

  • Solids Inventory & Wasting Strategy
We assess MLSS/MLVSS trends, SRT alignment, wasting practices, and overall biomass control to determine whether solids inventory is stable and supporting consistent treatment performance.

    Aeration & Dissolved Oxygen Control
We review blower strategy, DO setpoints, basin distribution, and oxygen demand patterns to evaluate energy efficiency, biological stability, and nitrification reliability.

    Clarifier Performance
We examine blanket depths, solids loading rates, return rates, hydraulic patterns, and effluent trends to identify risks to settling performance and effluent quality.

    Solids Handling Constraints
We evaluate thickening, digestion (if applicable), storage capacity, and process flow limitations to determine whether solids management is restricting plant stability.

    Dewatering Performance
We review polymer usage, capture efficiency, cake solids, throughput rates, and operational consistency to identify opportunities for improved performance and cost control.

    Compliance Documentation Readiness
We assess process monitoring practices, reporting accuracy, internal tracking systems, and documentation consistency to ensure the facility is prepared for regulatory review.

Phase 2 - Recovery Support (90 Days)

After the assessment, ABAR provides structured implementation support to restore and maintain operational control. Phase 2 centers on KPI-driven oversight, consistent operational practices, and clear process-control targets.

With WIMS Rio by Aquatic Informatics implemented and configured during Phase 1, Phase 2 uses the live platform to monitor facility performance in real time, track recovery KPIs, and provide data-driven accountability throughout the 90-day stabilization period.

Optimization efforts frequently translate into reduced chemical usage, improved blower efficiency, and more consistent solids management — lowering operating costs while protecting compliance.

Assessment defines the plan. Recovery ensures lasting results.

  • Yes. Engineering firms typically focus on design, capital projects, and regulatory requirements. ABAR focuses on day-to-day plant performance, process control, and operational stability. Our work complements engineering support by helping your team operate consistently within existing system limitations and preparing the plant for future improvements.

  • Yes — that’s one of the most common situations we support. Understaffing often leads to reactive operations and inconsistent process control. ABAR helps establish clear priorities, practical operating targets, and repeatable routines so your existing team can maintain stability more efficiently.

  • ABAR supports municipal wastewater treatment plants, especially activated sludge and extended aeration systems. We also support industrial pretreatment plants as well. We assist facilities experiencing solids handling, digestion, or dewatering bottlenecks, as well as plants preparing for inspections or corrective action planning.

  • To get started, we typically request recent operational data, permit information, process monitoring records, and a brief discussion with plant leadership or operators about current challenges. This helps us prepare for a focused and efficient assessment.

  • Yes. Recovery Support may include scheduled on-site visits combined with remote KPI review and troubleshooting guidance. The level of on-site involvement depends on the plant’s needs and the selected support duration.

  • Travel and approved third-party services are billed as pass-through costs and are discussed in advance. ABAR keeps these expenses transparent and coordinated with the facility to avoid surprises.
